FAQs

Is IV sedation the same as general anesthesia?
No. IV sedation is typically used to help you feel calm and comfortable. You will be monitored throughout, and most patients have little to no memory of the procedure. Your surgeon will confirm what is appropriate for your specific case.
Do I need an escort?
Yes. If you receive IV sedation, you must have a responsible adult escort to bring you to the appointment and take you home afterward.
Will I feel pain during the procedure?
Local anesthesia is used to numb the treatment area. IV sedation is used for comfort and anxiety control, and your care team monitors you closely the entire time.
Do I need to fast before my appointment?
Yes, do not eat or drink anything after the midnight (12:00AM) prior to your sedation appointment.
Do I need to arrive early to my appointment?
Yes. If you are booked for IV sedation, please arrive 30 minutes early so we can complete check-in, review instructions, and prepare you safely for your appointment.
How long does recovery take?
Most patients feel drowsy for the rest of the day. Plan to rest at home after the appointment and follow your post-operative instructions closely.
How do I know if IV sedation is right for me?
IV sedation may be recommended for surgical procedures, significant dental anxiety, strong gag reflex, or longer appointments. Dr. Natasha Holder will review your history and help you choose the best option.
