Bone Grafting

Bone grafting plays a vital role in restoring the structure and strength of the jawbone. Our oral surgeon provides advanced bone grafting procedures to support dental implants, correct jawbone defects, and preserve your natural facial architecture after tooth loss.

If you've been told you don’t have enough bone for implants, or if you've experienced bone loss after an extraction, bone grafting can help rebuild what’s been lost—setting the stage for long-term oral health and successful surgical outcomes.

What Is Bone Grafting?

Bone grafting is a surgical technique where bone or bone-like material is added to areas of the jaw where bone has deteriorated or is insufficient. This procedure stimulates your body’s natural ability to regenerate new bone, creating a stable foundation for dental implants, ridge reconstruction, or other restorative surgeries.

Bone graft material may come from your own body (autograft), a donor source (allograft), or a synthetic alternative, depending on your individual needs and treatment plan. Our team will guide you through every option to ensure your comfort.

Types of Bone Grafting Procedures We Offer

Socket Preservation (Alveolar Ridge Preservation)

After a tooth extraction, the jawbone naturally begins to shrink in the area where the tooth once was. Socket preservation protects the bone structure immediately after extraction—maintaining ridge shape and minimizing future bone loss.

What to expect:
  • The socket is cleaned and filled with a bone grafting material
  • A collagen membrane may be placed over the graft for protection
  • The site is sutured and left to heal over several weeks
  • Ideal for patients planning future implants or concerned about esthetics

This minimally invasive procedure is usually done under local anesthesia for your comfort.

Sinus Lift (Maxillary Sinus Augmentation)

When teeth in the upper back jaw are missing or extracted, the bone often isn’t tall enough to support implants due to sinus expansion. A sinus lift adds height by gently lifting the sinus membrane and placing a graft beneath it.

Procedure overview:
  • Accessed through the extraction site or side of the upper jaw
  • Sinus membrane is carefully elevated
  • Bone graft material is placed into the new space
  • Healing takes several months before placing implants

Ridge Augmentation (Guided Bone Regeneration – GBR)

Recommended when the jawbone is too thin or flat to support implants. Using graft materials and protective membranes, we rebuild the ridge to restore both function and esthetics.

Procedure steps:
  • Accessing the ridge with a small incision
  • Placing grafting material in the deficient area
  • Covering with a barrier membrane to guide regeneration
  • Suturing the site and allowing the bone to mature

Once healed, the augmented ridge provides the ideal platform for implant placement.

We work closely with referring dentists and specialists to ensure coordinated, comprehensive care, with in-house surgical options and personalized treatment plans tailored to your health and goals.
