Recognizing Signs of Oral Pathology

A healthy mouth should have a smooth, coral-pink lining. Any persistent changes may indicate an underlying condition such as oral cancer or a systemic disease. Red flags to look out for:

  • White patches (leukoplakia) or red patches (erythroplakia)
  • Sores that bleed easily or do not heal within two weeks
  • Lumps, thickening, or ulcerations in the mouth or lips
  • Chronic sore throat, hoarseness, or voice changes
  • Difficulty chewing, swallowing, or speaking

These changes can appear on the tongue, cheeks, lips, palate, gums, or throat. Pain may not always be present, which makes regular screening essential.

If you notice any of the above changes for more than two weeks, please book an assessment. Early diagnosis improves outcomes.
